For 12 days each May, the city of Cannes is transformed from a quiet seaside resort into the densest concentration of film industry activity on the planet. Over 200,000 people - filmmakers, film fans, studio executives, and star-gazers alike - decend on the Croisette to take part in the the Festival de Cannes, more commonly known to English-speakers as the Cannes Film Festival.
