Festival de Cannes Announces Online Marché du Film for 2020

While uncertainty swirls around what form, if any, the Festival de Cannes will take for 2020, the Market has decided to push ahead with an entirely online edition for the first time.

Slated to run for a week in late June (Monday 22nd through Friday 26th), the online event will be run in partnership with the Festival's professional networking platform, Cinando. The online event aims to offer participants the ability to undertake some of the typical activities that they would otherwise do in person in Cannes - contact sales companies, visit national and regional film commissions, hold meetings, and attend market screenings. The online market will also include a program of special events and conferences, all virtual of course, for the accreditees.

To participate in the virtual market, a special accreditation is required. Registration will be open from 4 May via the official market website. Accreditation will cost 95€ up until 29 May, then 195€ until the event starts. Accreditation also includes the standard one-year subscription to Cinando.

The virtual market offers a much-needed lifeline to sectors of the industry where the buyers and sellers rely heavily on the annual market calendar. For everyone else, the virtual market doesn't offer an immense amount of value, so it's probably better to save the pennies, contact anyone you need to directly, and plan for Cannes 2021 instead.
